Palma, Tomas Estrada 1867-

Patriot; born in Bayamo, Cuba; studied at the University of Seville, Spain. He was active in the Cuban insurrection of 1867-78, during the latter part of which he was President of the Cuban Republic. He represented the Cuban Republic during the last revolution as plenipotentiary. During the summer of 1901 there was a wide-spread expression in favor of his election as the first President of the new Cuban republic.
