--The following table shows the population of thirty-four of the principal cities in the United States, by the census of 1860; also, the population in 1850, the actual increase from 1850 to 1860, and the percentage of increase. The figures for the census for 1860 are obtained from various sources, and may be slightly changed by the official reports, though it is probable that they are generally correct:
