Tender of thanks for aid to sick soldiers.
To the Editors of the Dispatch: On the part of the ladies of the
Lincolnton (N. C.) Aid Association, we beg to tender our warm and heartfelt thanks for the unlimited kindness of the people of
Gloucester, manifested to the soldiers of our State generally, and particularly for the company under
Captain Wm. Hoke's command.
At the same time, too, that we gratefully acknowledge the great and unvarying interest shown by the whole community for the comfort and well being of the troops, we would especially express our earnest appreciation of the devotion of the ladies of
Gloucester county to every and all the requirements of the sick and wounded who have been thrown into their midst.
Their benevolent exertions have by no means been confined to pecuniary aid, though of this they have been unboundedly liberal; but they have bestowed their personal care, and have ever been ready and prompt to relieve distress and want in all its various phases, even at the sacrifice of their own comfort and property.
Thus white we particularize the few comparatively as especially prominent in their exertions, we beg it to be distinctly understood that our list of benefactors is far from being limited to those designated.
