Capture of three Lake steamers.
--The New Orleans
Picayune is indebted to the courtesy of
Gen. Lovell for the use of the following dispatch:
‘
Fort Pike, Nov. 29.--
Captain Buckley, of the steamer
Jeff. Davis, has just left my wharf, having been turned back on his trip to
Mobile.
He reports the capture, by the
Yankees, yesterday morning, in the
Sound, of the steamers
Grey Cloud,
Watson, and
Henry Lewis--the two latter heavily laden with freight for
Mobile.
’
H. A. Clinch,
Major Comd'g.
Maj. Gen. Lovell, C. S. A.
The
Picayune further says:
‘
Since receiving the above, we learn from here agents here,
John E. Hyde & Co., that the
Grey Cloud arrived in port (
Mobile) early yesterday morning.
The wrong name has probably been given, by mistake, to one of the captured boats.
Another dispatch has been received by
Mr. Geddes, agent of the mail line, dated
Pascagoula, yesterday, stating that a steamer name not mentioned, was captured by the enemy, in the morning, and in the evening a schooner.
