--The
Army Argus, of the 13th inst., says:
‘
The bogus
Governor Gamble, of
Missouri, has called the convention to meet again on the first Monday in June.
The object of the call is expressed in the proclamation to be ‘"for the purpose of re-districting the
State and other purposes."’ What those ‘"other purposes"’ are we do not know, but we predict that no atrocity left unperpetrated will be passed over by this body, which should be consigned to everlasting infamy.
Although called for one solitary purpose, to wit: to consider the relations of the
State to the
Federal Government as they existed on the 18th of February, 1861, this body has set aside the
State Constitution, and boldly takes the ground that it is above the
Constitution.
Whenever you quote any provisions of the
State Constituiton, they coolly tell you that they are above that instrument.
Every man consenting to a principle so cestructive of all representative government, ought to be executed as an enemy to mankind.
