The following incident

well illustrates the base treachery of the vandals who were repulsed yesterday by our gallant army. A private of the 6th Alabama regiment had disarmed and taken a Yankee lieutenant, whom he was bringing off the field, when, suddenly wheeling, the Yankee attempted to shoot his captor with a pistol which was concealed upon his person, and would doubtless have succeeded in his dastardly intention had not our soldier knocked down the pistol, causing the ball to enter his foot; then, stepping off a few paces, he discharged the contents of his rifle in the lieutenant's bowels, causing his immediate death.
