The custom-house Frauds.

--The case of the people against William Chase Barney, Benthian Fabian, late of Richmond, Va., and Captain Reginald Chauncey, on the complaint of Wheeler, for an alleged attempt to internal revenue by fraudulently attempting to clear three hundred barrels of alcohol from the custom-house, by which the Government would have lost the dues thereon, amounting to $40,000, was brought before Justice of New York city, Saturday morning last, who said:

‘ "Upon the motion to dismiss the prisoners for want of jurisdiction, I have come to the conclusion that I have jurisdiction to arrest and examine the prisoners for the offence charged; but, as they constitute violations of United States laws, it is best that the proceedings be concluded before the United States officials. I shall therefore simply hold the prisoners for the purpose of permitting the United States Court to proceed in the matter. "

’ The case, therefore, next comes up in a United States Court.
