Manning, Daniel 1831-1887

Financier; born in Albany, N. Y., May 16, 1831; received a public school education; was for many years connected with the Albany Argus, and was also an officer in several financial institutions. He became conspicuously active in the Democratic party in 1872; was chairman of the New York State Democratic Convention in 1881-84; a delegate to the National Democratic Conventions of 1876, 1880, and 1884, and chairman of the convention of 1880. He was Secretary of the United States Treasury in 1885-87. He died in Albany, N. Y., Dec. 24, 1887.
