From Suffolk. From this point the reports which reach us are of an important character. These state that the battery of Capt. Sibley, connected with General French's division, was surprised and captured on Sunday night at Keeling's farm, on the Nansemond river. It is also said that 40 of our men were captured at the same line. Passengers by the train from Petersburg last night confirm this report.--During the forenoon of Monday heavy firing was heard in the direction of Suffolk, supposed to result from an engagement between the gunboats of the enemy and our artillery. Gen. Longstreet moved from his headquarters at an early hour on Monday morning.

Mayor's Court Tuesday, April 21. --The case of John Murphy, charged with shooting Martin Callahan in the mouth with a bullet from a Colt's revolver, was called and continued to the 1st of May on account of the absence of Callahan, who had been sent to a hospital for medical treatment. The shooting as previously stated took place near the Old Market-House on Monday evening. James Russell was charged with getting drunk and breaking a window glass in the house of John Governess. Russell in reply to a question of the Mayor, said he was a cripple and an army cook; that he had just arrived in Richmond when the occurrence took place, and that if permitted he would get out of the city by the first train. The Mayor said he should be permitted to make the attempt. The case of Patrick Healey, for allowing a dead horse to remain in one of the public streets, and become a nuisance, was called and continued, Healy not responding when his name was called. ried it broke down Monday night, about 12 o'clock near the corner of 9th and Main sts. While Vanderlip went for assistance the watchmen came by, and learning the contents of the wagon and the name of the pretended owner, arrested the parties found in possession of the seine, they having been not fled by Mr. Gitchoock of his loss, When Vanderlip came back with another wagon they asked him who the property belonged to, and he replied to himself.--He was then taken in custody. It appearing that Russell was less guilty than the other parties, he was admitted to bail for his appearance before the Hustings Court on the 28th inst. The others, save the negroes, who had merely gone along to help to move the saine, were committed, without bail, for examination on the charge of grand larceny. About a week since Vanderlip was released from jail, having just finished a six months term for misdemeanor. On Saturday the Hustings Court sent Mary Vanderlip, his wife, thither for committing perjury.
