Spu'rius

is properly a Roman praenomen, but occurs as the gentile name of one or two persons of no importance. Thus, for instance, we read of a M. Spurius, who was one of the conspirators against Julius Caesar. (Appian, App. BC 2.113.)

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
