Dall, William Healey, 1845-

Naturalist; born in Boston, Mass., Aug. 21, 1845; took part in the international telegraph expedition to Alaska in 1865-68; appointed assistant in the United States coast survey of Alaska in 1871, where he spent several years in various kinds of work, which included the geography, natural history, geology, etc., of Alaska and adjacent islands. Among his books are Alaska and its resources; Tribes of the extreme Northwest; Scientific results of the exploration of Alaska, etc.
