Dalzell, James,

Military officer; was in early life a companion of Israel Putnam. He marched to the relief of the garrison of Detroit with 260 men in 1763; and on July 30, the day after his arrival, he led a sally against the Indians, in which they were badly defeated. During the struggle Dalzell was killed. The rivulet which was the scene of this defeat is known to this day as “Bloody Run.”
