Rumors from the Border.

A report reached us yesterday that a skirmish lock place on Saturday last, near Romny Hampshire county, Va., which resulted disastrously to the small force engaged on our side. The first statement was that the enemy captured two hundred prisoners, sixty horses, and four pieces of artillery. Subsequent accounts pronounced this a great exaggeration; that only ten of our men were captured, While the Federals are said to have suffered considerably. We give the report for what it worth since it has been officially confirmed Col. McDonald was in command of the Southern force in the vicinity of Romney.

There were other rumors from the Potomac yesterday, none of which had any founded in fact. The Yankees have not yet advanced on Fairfax, although there is some to apprehend that such a movement on contemplation.
