Drowned.

--At an early hour yesterday morning, the body of a white man was found in the mill-race of Shockoe (Smythe's) Mill, south side of the dock, between Sixteenth and Seventeenth streets. Coroner Little, M. D., viewed the corpse, but deemed an inquest unnecessary, as no marks of violence were visible on his person. No papers were found leading to the identification of the deceased other than a letter in his pocket signed "T. Gilbert," addressed to his cousin, "--Gilbert." In the opinion of the Coroner, the drowning must have occurred on Wednesday night. Parties living in the neighborhood state that late on that afternoon they observed a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, staggering around there, and, in all probability, it was the same individual who subsequently fell in the dock and was drowned.
