The liquor tax.

--The Legislature of Virginia having repealed the law prohibiting liquor licenses, it is now competent for those wishing to do so to sell intoxicating fluids by the drink as openly as ever. In the Senate of Virginia, yesterday, the tax bill being under consideration, it was agreed, by a vote of twenty-three to four, that five dollars tax shall be paid by all distillers and venders for every gallon sold exceeding five.--Those voting in the minority objected to the sum imposed as too heavy, and favored a tax of one dollar per gallon. Two hundred dollars specific tax was fixed upon as the amount to be paid by retailers.
