II. Pass., with aor. 2 and pf. Act., withdraw from, “τοῦ νεώ” Luc.Am.17; “τῆς πόλεως” Plu.Cat.Mi.19; “τῆς ἀγορᾶς” Id.CG1; ὑ. τῆς ἀρχῆς give up all claim to it, Hdt.3.83: c. inf., “ὑ. ἄρχειν” Luc.Sat.6.
2. c. acc., go out of the way of, avoid, “ὑπεκστῆναι βούλομαι τὸν λόγον” Pl.Phlb.43a; cf. “ὑπεξέρχομαι” 1.
3. c. dat., give place to, make way for, X.Ath.1.10; yield to, give way to, ταῖς ἀπορίαις, τῷ καιρῷ, Plu.Sol.25, Cat.Mi. 35.
