（Αιβύη). The Greek name for

the continent of Africa in general (see Africa); and

2.

for a district of Northern Africa (Αιβύης νομός), between Egypt and Marmarica, once an Egyptian nomos. It also bore the Roman name of Libya Exterior. See D'Avezac, Afrique (Paris, 1883).
