BAU´CIDES
BAU´CIDES (
βαυκίδες), a
kind of costly shoe of a saffron colour (Poll. 7.99), worn exclusively by
women. It was also called
βουκίδιον. Kock
on Aristophanes (
Frag. 342 quotes Aspasius (on Aristot.
Eth. 58 a) to the effect that it was an Ionian shoe worn
especially by the Ionian women. It is mentioned also by Alexis
(
Frag. 98, 7, Kock).
