LEIMO´NE

LEIMO´NE (Λειμώνη), the later name of the Homeric ELONE (Ἠλώνη), according to Strabo, was a town of Perrhaebia in Thessaly, and was situated at the foot of Mount Olympus, not far from the Titaresius or Eurotas. The Greeks of Elassóna report that there are some remains of this city at Selos. (Hom. Il. 2.739; Strab. ix. p.440; Steph. B. sub voce Ἠλώνη; Leake, Northern Greece, vol. iii. p. 345.)
