MAXILU´A
MAXILU´A (
Μαξιλοῦα,
Ptol. 2.4.13), a town in Hispania Baetica, which, like Calentum, was celebrated for its manufacture of a sort of bricks light enough to swim on water. (
Plin. Nat. 35.14. s. 49; comp.
Strab. xiii. p.615;
Vitr. 2.3; Schneider,
ad Ecl. Phys. p. 88.)
It was probably situated in the
Sierra Morena. (Florez,
Esp. Sagr. xii. p. 259.)
