Rations.

--It certainly ought to be well known to the needy persons of this city that the issue of rations by the United States authorities has been discontinued, and that no arrangement has been made for its resumption. Notwithstanding this fact, the Mayor of the city is constantly applied to by indigent females for supplies of food, which he has no authority to give. As many as twenty have called upon him at one time, and he is so much annoyed by these continual applications as to seriously interfere with his public duties. The Council has made an appropriation to supply the poor with fuel, but even this has not yet been purchased.
