KERILEN
Finistère, France.
Gallo-Roman
site in the commune of Plounéventer, first located in the
19th c. and excavated since 1962. Stratigraphical studies
show that the ancient city was inhabited from the time of
Gallic independence to the end of the 3d c. A.D., when
the site was probably abandoned.
The substructures uncovered appear to be fairly well
built. The many furnaces and hearths as well as the
various scoria found in situ indicate that the area excavated was a sector of artisans' workshops. The objects
discovered, mainly terra sigillata and profusely decorated
domestic ware, are housed in the archaeological laboratory of the Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines of
Rennes.
