VICUS INSTEIANUS

(Varro) :

a street on the collis Latiaris, the southern part of the Quirinal (Varro, LL v. 52), in which a great flood of water is said to have burst forth in 214 B.C. (Liv. xxiv. IO. 8). It probably ascended the hill near the porta Fontinalis and the modern Piazza Magnanapoli, and was destroyed by the building of the imperial fora.
