ὑπα^γορ-εύω , the aor. being in Att. (but not in later Gr., cf. J.AJ3.5.3, etc.) ὑπεῖπον (q.v.), pf. ὑπείρηκα:—
A.dictate, X.Oec.15.7 (Pass.), Plu. Caes.17; freq. in Pap., BGU592 ii 4 (ii A.D.), etc.; “γράψαι τὸ ὑπαγορευθένArist.Top.142b32: more generally, “ δεῖ ποιεῖνD.17.29; ὑπαγορευομένη διάθεσις the given state of health, Alex. Trall.12.
II. suggest, ἐλπίδα, πρόφασιν, Str.1.2.32,39, cf. Marcellin.Puls.172, Gal.6.314, Posidon. ap. Aët.6.2, etc.; “θυσίας καὶ καθαρμούςPlu.Marc.29: folld. by inf., D.H.Th.19:—impers. in Pass., Epict.Ench.30.
III. imply, indicate without the use of a special word or form,ξὺν νηῒ . . ὑπαγορεύει ξὺν μιᾷ νηΐA.D.Synt.72.17, cf. 278.12 (Pass.), al.
IV. reply, gloss on ἀντιβληθέντος in Dinarchus, Harp., AB409 (Pass.).
V. enumerate, Anon.Lond.11.42; name, call by a title,ἐν τῷ "περὶ μετοχῆς" ὑπηγορευμένῳA.D.Synt.302.10, cf. 337.11; “ταῦτα φρενιτικὰ εἶναι ὑπαγόρευεHerod.Med. in Rh.Mus.58.71.
