CASTRA HE´RCULIS This is one of the seven places on the frontier of the Rhine which Julian repaired; and Ammianus Marcellinus, who enumerates them, places Castra Herculis first, and Bingium (Bingen) last. [BINGIUM] From this we may conclude that it was on the Lower Rhine, and the Itins. place it there. [CARVO] Castra Herculis may be Hervelt
