CHRYSAS

CHRYSAS (Χρύσας), a river of Sicily which rises in the Heraean mountains, not far from the modern town of Gangi, and after flowing through the territory of Assorus, where its tutelary divinity was worshipped with peculiar honours [ASSORUS], and afterwards through that of Agyrium, joins the river Symaethus about 20 miles from its mouth. It is now called the Dittaíno. (Cic. Ver. 4.44; Diod. 14.95; Vib. Sequest. p. 8; Sil. Ital. 14.229; Cluver. Sicil. p. 325.)
