DICALEDONAE

DICALEDONAE in Britain, mentioned by Ammianus Marcellinus (27.8) as one of the divisions of the Picts; the Vecturiones forming the other. There can be but little doubt that in this word we have the root Caledon-(in Caledonia), with a prefix. As little can it be doubted that the same is the case with the Deu-caledonius Oceanus (q. v.). The meaning of the prefix is another question. See PICTI
