HERCUNIATAE

HERCUNIATAE or HERCUNIATES (Ἑρκουνιαταί), a tribe in Pannonia, occupying the district between the Danubius and lake Pelso. (Plin. Nat. 3.28; Ptol. 2.16.3.) Their name is believed to indicate that they were a Celtic people.
