In 1882, he began the chapters of his Larger History of the United States, which were published in Harper's Magazine; of these he told his sister, August 24, 1883, I have written one of my Harper's papers regularly every month Harper's papers regularly every month for the last eleven months; besides other things too much for anybody. It was a rare thing for him to admit that he worked beyond his strength, but such was often the case. In the autumn of this year, Colonel Higginson wrote to his sister:— Imade more work than I hope ever to be entangled in again. I have had the immediate prospect too of two more chapters in Harper, and a revision of my Young Folks' History, these being demanded at once. He adds:— I finished and sent the last of my Harper papers and also corrected the last proof of my Ossoli book.
