ἐμβα^τ-εύω ,
A.step in or on, frequent, haunt: c. acc., of tutelary gods, “νῆσος . . ἣν ὁ φιλόχορος Πὰν ἐμβατεύει” A.Pers.449, cf. E.El.595; “Πὰν Πελασγικὸν Ἄργος ἐμβατεύων” Cratin. 321; “ἵνα Διόνυσος ἐμβατεύει” S.OC679 (lyr.): c. dat., “ὁ -εύων τῷ χωρίῳ δαίμων” D.H.1.77: c. gen., in simple sense, set foot upon, “μήτ᾽ ἐμβατεύειν πατρίδος” S.OT825: abs., enter a sacred cave, OGI530.15 (Iasus).
II. ἐ. κλήρους χθονός enter on, come into possession of, E. Heracl.876, cf. LXXJo.19.49: more freq. ἐ. εἰς τὴν ναῦν enter on possession of the vessel, D.33.6; “εἰς τὴν οὐσίαν” Id.44.19; “εἰς τὸ χωρίον” Is.9.3: abs., enter on an inheritance, PEleph.2.14 (iii B.C.).
