Abrotŏnum
(
Ἀβρότονον). An African coasttown lying between the
Syrtes. It was founded by the Phœnicians, and subsequently became a Roman colony. It
was also called
Neapŏlis; and with Oea
and Leptis Magna formed the so-called African Tripolis (
Pliny
H. N. v. 4).
