Caesăris Arae

Mentioned by Ptolemy as near the Tanaïs, in what is now the country of the Don Cossacks. They are supposed to have been erected in honour of one of the Roman emperors by some neighbouring prince; perhaps by Polemo, in the reign of Tiberius. See Tac. Ann. xii. 15.
