Cilley, Jonathan Prince 1835-

Military officer; born in Thomaston, Me., Dec. 29, 1835; son of the preceding; graduated at Bowdoin College in 1858, and became a lawyer. When the Civil War broke out he was commissioned a captain in the 1st Maine Cavalry. On May 24, 1862, when General Banks retreated from the Shenandoah Valley, Captain Cilley was wounded and taken prisoner. In recognition of his services at Five Forks, Farmville, and Appomattox Court-House he was brevetted brigadier-general at the close of the war. He is the author of a genealogy of the Cilley family.
