Walker, Charles L. 1814-1895

historian; born in Otsego county, N. Y., in 1814; taught school in 1830; removed to Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1836, when he became secretary of the territorial convention; was elected to the State legislature in 1840; removed to Springfield, Mass., in 1841, where he was admitted to the bar; and settled in Detroit, Mich., in 1851. He became Professor of Law in the University of Michigan in 1857, and a judge of the Wayne circuit court in 1867. He made a special study of history and wrote Life of Cadillac: Michigan from 1796-1805; The Civil administration of General Hull; and The Northwest Territory during the Revolution. He died in Flint, Mich., Feb. 11, 1895. [112]
