661. In HDT. vi. 108 we find the infinitive depending on φθάνω . . . , the verb implying πρότερον or πρίν: φθαίητε ἂν πολλάκις ἐξανδραποδισθέντες τινα πυθέσθαι ἡμέων, you would often be reduced to slavery before any of us heard of it.
