[539] ἢ οὐκ The κοὐκ of the MSS. cannot be defended here—where stress is laid on the dilemma of δειλία or μωρία— by instances of ἤ ... τε carelessly put for ἤ—ἤ in cases where there is no such sharp distinction of alternatives: as Hom. Il. 2.289 “ἢ παῖδες νεαροὶ χῆραί τε γυναῖκες”: Aesch. Eum. 524 “ἢ πόλις βροτός θ᾽ ὁμοίως.”
