[688] παριεὶς with τοὐμὸν κέαρ, seeking to relax, enervate, my resentment: a sense which the close connection with καταμβλύνων interprets, though the more ordinary meaning for παριεὶς, had it stood alone here, would be “neglecting,” “slighting” （“πόθος παρεῖ,” Soph. El. 545）: cp. Aristoph. Kn. 436 “τοῦ ποδὸς παρίει,” slack away （some of） the sheet: Eur. Cycl. 591 “ὕπνῳ παρειμένος”: Eur. Orest. 210 “τῷ λίαν παρειμένῳ,” （neut.） by too great languor. Schneidewin understands, “neglecting my interest, and blunting （your） feeling”: but τοὐμὸν must surely agree with κέαρ.
