The Southern Illustrated news

appears in an improved and very attractive form to-day, and the enterprising publishers, Messrs. Ayres & Wade, announce a contemplated addition from abroad to their corps of engravers. The new frontispiece is very handsomely designed and artistically engraved. A portrait of Lieutenant-General Ewell is one of the features of this issue. The proprietors offer a prize of $1,000 for a story by a Southern writer, which is a fair specimen of their liberal course towards literary men, which, we may say with truth, they initiated in the Confederacy.
