Manufactures.
--The fruits of the war in this section are the establishing of factories of various kinds, for the production of articles that heretofore were only to be had of the
North.
In this city are now manufactured hate and caps, cotton goods, shoes and boots of every variety, guns, pistols and knives of various patterns,
oil cloths, powder,
percussion caps, chemicals and medicines, caster and licensed oils, printing and writing ink, swords, files, saws, axes, hammers, carriages, brooms, brunches, cedar ware, perfumery, fancy soaps, glue, and scores of other articles, such as the
Yankee nation have heretofore poured into the
South by cargoes, and grown rich on their sales.
Let our people encourage "home manufactories," in every department, and thus contribute to the permanent independence of the
South.
