In the present contest there is some consolation in knowing that our soldiers are not only fighting on their own self for the preservation of their rights, ‘"for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"’ in their own way, but they and their leaders know thoroughly every inch of territory over which they have to pass. They do not mind exposure, are familiar with the use of all kinds of weapons, especially the rifle and hunting knife, and now that they are called from the peaceful pursuits of every-day life, they will meet the invaders in an old-fashioned and wonderfully effectual manner.
