WADDON HILL Stoke Abbott, Dorsetshire, England.

A long flat-topped hill on which a Roman fort was constructed ca. A.D. 45 and dismantled ca. 65. More than half the hill has been removed in stone quarrying, but the remainder on the E side was excavated in 1959-69. The partial plan of timber buildings was revealed, including barrack-blocks, principia, praetorium, and a large building which may have been a hospital or second praetorium, as well as latrine-pits and water-holes. The excavations also produced a wealth of equipment associated, as at Hod Hill, with both legionaries and auxiliaries, much of which is now in the Bridport Museum.
