I.free or exempt from a public service, burāen, or charge (class.; cf.: expers, exsors).
B. Transf., beyond the polit. and milit. sphere, free or exempt from, that contributes or gives nothing (mostly poet.): “non cnim est inhumana virtus neque immunis neque superba,inactive, Cic.
