CAE´NICA

CAE´NICA (Καινική), the name of one of the districts into which Thrace was divided by the Romans. It was situated on the Euxine (Ptol. 3.11.9), and probably derived its name from the Thracian tribe of the CAENI or CAENICI, who dwelt between the Panysus and the Euxine. (Liv. 38.40; Steph. B. sub voce Καινοί.)
