HALICYRNA

HALICYRNA (Ἁλίκυρνα: Eth. Ἁδικυρναῖος), a village of Aetolia, described by Strabo as situated 30 stadia below Calydon towards the sea Pliny places it near Pleuron. Leake discovered some ruins, midway between Kurt-aga (the site of Calydon) and the eastern termination of the lagoon of Mesolonghi, which he supposes to be the remains of Halicyrna. (Strab. x. p.459, sub fin. where the common text has the false reading Δίκυρνα; Scyl. p. 14; Plin. Nat. 4.3; Steph. B. sub voce where it is erroneously called a village in Acarnania; Leake, Northern Greece, vol. iii. p. 533.)
