Eth. STAVANI (Σταυανοί, Ptol. 3.5.25), a people in European Sarmatia, at the N. foot of Mons Bodinus. Ukert (3.2.435) conjectures that we should read Στλαυάνοι, that is, Slavi, and seeks them on the Dunä and the Ilmensee. [T.H.D]
