--The following is a reliable account of the recent skirmish near
Paducah, about which the
Northern journals have been glorifying themselves:
‘
On Wednesday morning last,
Lieutenant-Colonel Logwood, accompanied by a detachment of
Captain Ballentine's company, left the camp at
Columbus and proceeded towards
Paducah.
About ten o'clock the same night the company dismounted, and, leaving their horses, proceeded on foot through the woods to within two miles of
Paducah, where there was a Federal Picket composed of six dragoons, four of whom were shot and two taken prisoners. During the firing
Mr. James C. Fleming, of the
Memphis Light Dragoons, and
John Gallagher, of
Capt. Ballentine's company, who had become separated from their companions, were shot before they were recognized.
Dr. Holmes was shot and wounded by the
Federals.
Gallagher was killed almost instantly.
Holmes and
Fleming will probably recover.
