BERZOBIS
(Berzovia) Caraş-Severin, Romania.
Roman camp and civil settlement on the Lederata-Tibiscum imperial road, on the left bank of Bîrzava
river. The name appears in the
Peutinger Table and in
Priscianus (
Gram. lat. 6.13), the only extant fragment
of Trajans commentary on the Dacian wars.
The camp (410 x 490 m) has earth walls; ditches were
built after the second Dacian war (105-106) by Legio
IV Flavia Felix and used probably until the time of
Hadrian. The N and S sides of the camp are well preserved.
Ceramics, stamped tiles, coins, etc., are on display at
the Banat Museum in Timişoara and the museum in
Reşiţa.
