MARGUM

MARGUM or MARGUS (Μάργον, Μάργος), also called MURGUM, a city of Moesia, at the confluence of the Margus and Danube. It was termed “Margum plenum” on account of the level character of the surrounding country. (Jornand. de Reb. Get. 100.58.) It was here that the emperor Carinus was totally defeated by Diocletian. (Eutrop. 9.13, 10.20 ; It. Ant. p. 132; It. Hieros. p. 564.)
