[534] The amount of State aid paid by the town to soldiers' families during the war, and reimbursed by the Commonwealth, was as follows: In 1861, $1,436.76; in 1862, $5,398.22; in 1863, $7,059.77; in 1864, $5,239.19; in 1865, $3,000.00. Total amount, $22,137,14. The ladies of Wrentham formed a Soldiers-Aid Society ‘and frequently sent articles of comfort and necessity to the soldiers in the camp.’
