[86] On the 5th of October, several of the citizens having been drafted, and each having paid three hundred dollars commutation-money, the town voted ‘that it is right and just that this burden should be equally and ratably divided among the inhabitants of the town, and not be permitted to fall upon a few individuals, some of whom are ill able to bear it.’ It was then voted that three hundred dollars be paid to each of the drafted men who had paid commutation to that amount. 1864. On the 11th of April twelve hundred dollars were appropriated for the payment of State aid.
